During our testing, we found that the iRobot S9+ cleans thoroughly and efficiently on a variety of floor surfaces, from hard to medium-pile carpets and rug. It also did well with vinyl, and laminate floors. It also did a nice job of maneuvering between furniture and objects although it struggled a bit with stairs, where it can crash into objects like bookcases.
We loved the feature that the S9 automatically returns to its base to empty its dust bin when it's empty, which dramatically minimizes the need to be hands-on with maintenance. Its dust bag should last about 30 loads, or about one month or so, and you'll have to replace the filter every once every so often (which is actually recommended by iRobot). The iRobot S9+ is not very noisy when it operates which makes it a great option for families with children or pets.
Eufy RoboVac X8 Hybrid
Created to remove one of the most difficult tasks off your hands, robot vacuum cleaners do all the work of keeping carpeted and hardwood floors free of every day dust. Some robot vacuum cleaners are able to be controlled via a smartphone application, while others have mopping technology for bathroom and kitchen flooring. They're a great solution for busy families, and are becoming more affordable than ever before. If you're looking for the most advanced technology in your robotic cleaner, then you'll have to pay a little more.
The Eufy RoboVac X8 Hybrid is a complete vacuum and mopping machine, making it a good choice for those in a flat with multiple floors. Its dual motors give it incredible cleaning power and the 0.6l dust bin can hold a lot of pet hair. The dustbin is easily removed and empty which is great since you'll have to do this frequently.
It's also easy to set up, but I would recommend fully charging the X8 Hybrid prior to running it for the first time. Install the Eufy Home application and follow the instructions to connect it to your WiFi network. The app will assist you to create an outline of your home. You can name rooms and divide large spaces into sub-rooms (good for open-plan living) and guide the X8 Hybrid to specific areas that require cleaning at a specific time. Eufy's application is more user-friendly and refined than other robots that have similar scanning and mapping functions.
The X8 Hybrid has a great feature: you can control the mop or vacuum cleaner by voice thanks to the integration with Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. This is a nice feature that makes the robot even more hands-free, and it is very effective in our test house.
As with many robotic vacuums the X8 Hybrid has some issues with bare floors. It may miss fur and other small objects, and can cause bumps to objects, such as its charger on the charging platform. It's not as quiet, and the whirring sound could be distracting as other models.
Roborock V3S pro
This model doesn't have as many features as some of the more expensive ones we've tested, but it does provide the essentials. It has a big dust bin that can hold a large amount of dirt before needing to be empty. The vacuum and mop system is great for hard floors and carpets with low pile. It's also very quiet, and we were able to sit and watch robot vacuum deals television while it was cleaning without feeling like it was blazing us with noise.
Our test participants were extremely pleased with how easy the machine was to use and set up. They also loved its ability to eliminate all the messes from their floors. It also did a good job of picking up pet hair and other messes that get on carpeting, though it wasn't as successful in removing stubborn stains. The users found the app to be user-friendly and intuitive, and they could schedule the vacuum to be cleaned on a regular basis to help reduce how much they had to manually do. The only downside is that it doesn't have any mapping technology or object avoidance, which means you can't send it to specific rooms or follow virtual boundaries (though magnetic boundary strips work).
Another model from iRobot's low-cost line that is the V3S Pro has some impressive features for its price. It topped all other robotic vacuums in our tests when it comes to finding and avoiding obstacles and it's the perfect budget option for those who want a smarter self-emptying robot vacuum that can handle pet hair and messes on both hardwood floors and low-pile carpeting. It is also very quiet and has a large dust bin that can hold a lot of dust before it needs to be emptied.
The V3S Pro did not make it into our top choice lists from reliable sources that conduct hands-on tests, however it was praised by Modern Castle, Smart Robot Reviews and The Ambient. They were impressed with the ease of set up and use, however they did note that its battery life is short and it didn't manage to stay clear of some of the most difficult problems we've encountered.
Roborock Q Revo
The Q Revo is an entry-level robot mop and vacuum that comes with a variety of features at a reasonable price. You can get many of the premium features, like smart navigation and mapping, without paying top dollar. You can also use voice commands using Alexa, Google Assistant, or Apple Siri shortcuts to create custom automations and start cleaning from anywhere while you're away.
Roborock took its time in developing this innovative cleaner. It is extremely well-constructed and feels as if high-end materials were used to create it. The base is strong and sturdy, with an integrated charging port for the battery. There's a docking station for the clean-water tank as well as the bins for dirty water on top. Under those, you'll find an area that houses the vacuum bag sealed.
After connecting your device to the app, you'll see a 2D and 3D map of your house that will show you where your robot is located at any time and what area it is cleaning. You can also create virtual barriers to keep your robot out of certain areas or to only clean certain types of flooring. It can also alter its power settings based on the type of floor being cleaned and choose the most efficient cleaning method.
Unlike many other robot vacuums like the Q Revo, it can lift both mops while it's vacuuming to prevent staining your carpet fibres. In fact, it's the few vacuums on the market that can do this.
The Q Revo's suction capacity of 5500Pa can get rid of dust specks and pet hair when mopping. And the all-rubber brush is perfect for dissolving hair from animals and humans, as well as adapting to uneven surfaces.
Its only downside is that it can take some time to empty and fill the water tanks, both clean and dirty. You can reduce this frequency by using the auto-empty function, which will empty the bin automatically after a few days. There isn't an automatic reminder to verify the level of water on the dock.
